The Story Behind Swedish Supercar Brand Koenigsegg
Posted on , by Nick Preston
Similar to the story of Pagani, Koenigsegg is the aspiration of a single individual, in this case Christian von Koenigsegg.
Since dreaming of creating his own supercar since of the age of 5, Koenigsegg set in motion what was necessary to make his dream a reality by founding the supercar company at the age of just 22 years old.
Today, Koenigsegg build some of the fastest and most desirable cars on the planet in the Swedish town of Angelholm. For example, the Agera R has just received an astonishing six Guinness World Records for various land speed records. The most coveted however, still belongs to Bugatti for the highest land speed record of any production car with their Veyron Super Sport.
But, considering Koenigsegg was founded in just 1994 and their first model was only launched for sale in 2002, it’s very impressive what Christian and his team in Angelholm have done in such a short space of time. The folks over at Driven were recently given a tour of the Koenigsegg factory and they created the video at the top of this article. The video is over 30 minutes long but it’s well worth a watch, especially when you get a sneak preview at what secret projects Koenigsegg are currently working on.
One of these secret projects involves a new valvetrain design which is expected to completely do-away with engine cams. The other is a variable-geometry turbocharger, which could make Koenigsegg engines produce more power right through the rev range.
Koenigsegg are a very exciting company and we can’t wait to see they have in store for us next.
