Jaguar XJ220 Celebrates 20th Birthday
Posted on , by Nick Preston

It’s quite hard to believe that the Jaguar XJ220 first burst onto the scene 20 years go, setting a new benchmark for supercar design and performance.
Thankfully for us Brits the Jaguar XJ220 20th birthday celebration will take place this weekend in England, June 23-24, at Weston Park in Shropshire as part of the International Jaguar Weekend.
The supercar’s designer, Keithe Helfet, as well as Jim Randle, a member of the build team, and Mike Moretone, also on the build team and author of the book “Jaguary XJ220 – The Inside Story”, will all be attending the celebration.

The XJ220 was first launched in 1992, but its first unveiling to the public was in 1993 at the Autosport International Show. The XJ220 was initially displayed as a concept car five years previous, at the 1988 British Motor Show.
Regardless of these boring facts, the XJ220 is an incredible car and i remember seeing it at the age of 10 and it just blew my mind, and ever since its been in my top 5 all time favourite cars. Powered by a twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6 engine producing 542bhp, and weighing in at 32000lbs, this Jag could reach speeds as high as 220mph, which gave the car its name. The XJ220 also managed an impressive 7:46.37 lap time of the Nordschleife circuit–a figure which is obviously eclipsed by much less exotic cars today, but incredibly quick for its time.

With only 275 XJ220s being build in its two-year model run, its pretty damn rare and it remains an icon in the supercar world.
I LOVE THIS CAR!!
