GTI International 2012
Posted on , by Nick Preston
We all got packed up for GTI International and set off in the early afternoon. After travelling just 25 miles iain’s car decided to pop a rear air suspension bag leaving us stuck just after driffield.
Eventually the AA man turned up, even though we asked specifically for a low loader, and he didn’t even have any gaffer tape to temporarily fix the bag so we could at least make it back home to change cars. What kind of AA man doesn’t carry gaffer tape???
The low loader eventually turned up an hour later…

We finally got home and went for tea, then set off again 7 hours later than planned in El’s mums car arriving at the Premier Inn hotel just before midnight.
After a crap nights sleep due to Phil snoring his head off, we set off to Inters at 11am on Sunday.
The weather was a bit hit and miss with some showers throughout the day but when the sun made an appearance we managed to get some cracking photos with a moody sky in the background.

These two Audi RS4′s, one belonging to our friend Lee Wong, looked superb.
I have a big soft spot for immaculate Mk1 Golf’s and this one certainly didn’t dissapoint!
We managed to get some cracking photos of cars on the UK-MKIVS stand as we know quite a few of the owners.
Im chuffed with this Audi R8 photo i had taken as the lighting was perfect
Here are some of the cars from Show and Shine that stood out for me, including our friend Andrew Hatton who won Best Mk4 with his Oceanic Green Mk4 Golf. He also won our Monthly Car Competition with this car
.
I was going to post rolling photos from the drag strip but in respect of what happend i decided not to. Basically, a white seat leon being driven at speeds of around 60mph lost control and hurtled into the crowd injuring 3 people, one of which suffered a suspected broken hip and had to be flown by air ambulance to hospital.
Apparently the driver of the Seat Leon was using a quick release steering wheel which came off during the race and the car simply torque steered to the left into the crowd, thankfully no one was killed but it was a terrifying accident.
It’s ironic that this happend on the 25th Anniversary of GTI International but adequate safety measures at the side of the strip were simply not in place and the organisers of the event are lucky nobody was killed.
Here are some more photos from the day and our video!
