Elemental VW Show #7 2012
Posted on , by Tim Dawkins
It was an early start for me, I was up at 5:45am sharp to convene with some fellow Dubbers in East London before convoying up to the show in Stanstead. I’d not been to an Elemental event before, and wasn’t sure what to expect, although it originally was a local Air-Cooled gathering, it has now become a full blown VW weekender complete with camping and beer tents!
The entry fee was £5, and when booked in advance I not only got a free sticker, but a party bag of assorted goodies and flyers upon arrival at the showground. All proceeds from the event went to the Essex air ambulance, so I would have happily paid more!
When I got there I found a truly eclectic mix of cars, with the usual selection of air cooled metal in every possible condition from rat rods to concourse champions, and a healthy spread of water cooled dubs to go along.
The show and shine section was great, I never thought I’d see such different cars being judged in the same show.
This 1986 Scirocco really stood out, with an exceptional level of attention to detail.
There were plenty of Mk4 Golfs present, but my personal favourite was this home built satin grey 1.8T, sitting on some fresh blue Rota Grids.
My favourite camper was this 40 year old ‘bay’, with a full selection of mod cons and nice presentation.
As soon as it parked up this cheeky little Lupo caught my eye, showing the classic combination of BBS and Slam.
As well as a nice show field, there was a good auto jumble which catered for everything from spares to VW themed artwork, such as sold from the back of this camper.
All in, it was a great day out, with plenty of extra entertainment laid on including live music and kids activities, and the whole show had a really chilled atmosphere. Definitely one for the calendar next season!
